Short Bio

Counselor Educator since 2002. My clinical focus is couples counseling and narrative therapy. My research examines power and privilege in systems and relationships; recently I have expanded this towards understanding how to promote creativity and innovation in counselor education. My research experience includes using qualitative and quantitative methods as well as leading research teams. I have also served on the review boards of professional, peer-reviewed journals for almost 15 years.

Summer Writing Collaborative Focus

I really enjoy working with others who are wanting to develop lines of research and engage writing as a medium for sharing knowledge and experience. My current projects include examining the impacts of media literacy training on the development of cultural competence, examining the effects of teaching diversity on counselor educators and the educational process, and exploring methods of increasing creativity in counselor education and its relationship to development of counseling skills. I would be happy to engage with others interested in the same subjects - but also more than happy to work on other projects that might build long-lasting collaborations

Selected Nonprofit Organization

The Trevor Project

I have been a long-time supporter of The Trevor Project. This organization has promoted significant social change towards supporting LGBTQ+ youth, from increasing access to mental health services, providing public education and advocacy, to addressing systemic factors placing youth at risk. Our youth face continued threat today as more states introduce "don't say gay" bills which would again prevent youth from fair, equitable, and safe treatment in schools. Trevor Project works against these bills while also creating safe pathways for youth to access their services.
