Summer Writing Collaborative: Peer Writing Group Information

Summer 2023 Cohort Information

Ideal participants are individuals seeking:

  • To improve understanding of the process of scholarly writing and counselor education publication

  • To enhance ability to write effectively, edit efficiently, and identify characteristics of relationship with writing

  • To increase ability to formulate, review, and revise manuscript conceptualization, and support others in their conceptualization process

  • To improve relationship with feedback on writing skills via providing and receiving constructive feedback

  • To make significant progress on an identified writing piece

  • To actively engage in mentoring in scholarly writing

  • Growth in scholarly writing in a collaborative environment together with participants from diverse backgrounds

Is there a cost associated with participating in the Peer Writing Group?

While there is no direct cost paid to The Counseling Roundtable or Mentor, as an all-volunteer project, we are interested in supporting new professionals while simultaneously giving back to our communities.

In order to be considered eligible to participate in the Writer’s Table this summer, participants will be required to donate between $50- $200 to a nonprofit that works with underserved clients and communities.

How Long Does the Peer Writing Group Last?

Registration is currently open and will close by mid-August, earlier if the capacity limit is reached. (First come, first serve, folks!) A waitlist will be maintained should a place open up prior to the start date.

Our Writer’s Table - Summer Writing Collaborative Kickoff event will be in the middle of the summer, and we anticipate group projects expected to be completed by mid-October.

How do I know if I’m accepted into the cohort?

As stated above, the SWC is first come, first serve, so don’t wait!

Once you have submitted your registration, you will be notified via email and asked to confirm your donation by submitting a receipt before August 11.

  • Failure to submit a receipt by August 11 will result in ineligibility to participate in the Collaborative and permit us to allow someone off of the waitlist.

If registration has closed by the time your registration has been received, you will similarly be notified of your waitlist status via email.

What is the Goal of the Peer Writing Group?

With a view to foster academic collegiality, collaboration, research rigor, and scholarship among counselors and counselor educators, The Counseling Roundtable (TCR) is hosting a distance writing collaborative. TCR aims to provide collaborative, open-source programming that is free to all.

Who will I be working with?

In order to achieve an effective mentoring experience, the writing groups will be kept small - meaning we will have limited space for participants. Group members are expected to be composed of diverse, early-career individuals in the counseling field (i.e., advanced master’s students; doctoral students; counselor educators, practitioners, and supervisors who are in their first few years of professional positions).

The total number of participants will be limited to facilitate collaboration.

What does active participation look like?

Our goal is to create a collaborative space to foster growth around writing. As such, we seek folks who are committed to building relationships with professional peers by showing up to scheduled meetings, providing supportive peer mentoring, and maintaining active engagement with the SWC program.

A point of note, this is not the appropriate venue to work on a dissertation or other academic assignment, but graduate students are welcome to join and work on other projects.
